Actually, you can still prove to your boss and your co-workers that you are still an invaluable asset!

Take a step back and find what motivates you to work well before.

To work to your fullest potential, you need to ensure that you have the right conditions.

Your Perception of the Work

How you perceive your work is important. Whatever projects you are assigned to, you need to understand their significance to the organization. It is important to perceive the work assigned as something meaningful to you now and your future. When you know you are doing something worthy, you gain a certain level of satisfaction.

Identify Your Job as Worthwhile

The question here is; are you doing something worthwhile? If you could not see the significance of what you are doing, you will not be motivated. In the long run, you will lose interest in your job and will be identified as lazy or sluggish. You need to be proud of the work you are doing. If you know your job is worthwhile, you will gain pleasure from doing it.

Be Skillful at Doing the Work

This is a must have requirement before you apply for any job. Since you have proven yourself in the first place, you already have the trust of your boss. Do not let that trust go to waste. Your skills can be a great source of inspiration to yourself and your organization. Your skills can help the organization to move forward.

Achieve a High Standard in Work

Being skillful in your job means you have achieved a certain standard in your job. Achieving higher standards means that you can be promoted after a few important assignments. You have the responsible to create your own standards.

Your Efforts are Recognized by the Organization

When your efforts are recognized by the organization, you feel satisfied. You will be interested in your job. You know you are contributing values to your organization. Your efforts are recognized not only by your colleagues, but also your boss. You know you have a future.

Restriction of the Policies and Working Methods of the Organization

Every organization has its own set of working standards and restrictions. If you do not agree with the policies, discuss with your boss. Look for alternatives. You can work your way out. There is always a first in every case. Just do not abuse the ‘advantages’ given to you.

Work as a Team

No man is an island. Working together with your team members can solve a lot of problems. Always remember that working as a team will help you to ‘conceal’ your weakness. Someone else can do what you are not good at. Your team members will feel they are needed and satisfied with what they do too. All bosses look at the results of a team and not individuals.

Build Good Rapport with Your co-workers

Communicate well with your co-workers. This is the first rule of the workplace. It is rather pathetic to work hard alone to complete an assignment without help from others. Open the channel of communication with them.

Be honest when you communicate with them.

Be Accountable for Yourself

You are accountable of your attitude. When you perform poorly, your attitude plays a large role. You need to verify your negative thoughts and attitudes. Change them. Be positive.

You need to be accountable for the results of your work too. When a job is poorly done, it would not be accepted by all parties. Do something fast. Ask for a second chance to rectify the work. Give your best to make the job better than before. It takes a courageous person to admit his own faults. You may face the consequences, but you will also be admired for your accountability.

Freedom and Decision-making Power

As you go further in your career, you will need the freedom and decision-making power to do your job well. Discuss with your boss what you will get in your position. Most bosses are glad to be able to delegate some decision-making power to someone they trust. Be careful that you do not abuse the power given for your own satisfaction.

Feedback on Your Work Performance

Get your trusted co-workers to comment on your work. Be honest when you receive the feedbacks. Many times people go through their lives and works filled with negative emotions. These negative emotions will easily build up as they listen to many negative feedbacks.

That is why you have to be positive; both in mind and thoughts when you receive your feedbacks. Discuss with your boss regularly about your performance. Admit it when you have performed under par. Do not allow your negative emotions to control your actions.

Upgrade Your Skills Now and Then

Always volunteer to attend company trainings related to your work. This is an approach where you can continue learning without paying from your own pockets. You will gain much from the exposures. You may even expand your limited expertise through these trainings.

Last Words

See, you do not have to be so anxious when you were told that you have performed below par. You will be given time to amend your mistakes. Take the chance and show others your true capabilities. Always motivate yourself and your team to produce good results. When you have created some good conditions for yourself to work in, your performance will soar.
