Creative ways to get rid of telemarketers.
63Well, telemarketing is the 'in trend' now. Every now and then there will be calls from them.
There are a few ways to get rid of them. However, usually a plain 'No, thank you. I have my own.' will do. All telemarketers are human and they will understand. Sometimes a telemarketer will insist that you listen to her/him to explain to you about the product, then you may use the following excuses:
- in a meeting
- having an important appointment
- driving
- in a noisy public area
- in an area where reception is poor
- you are wanted for a meeting, etc
Being polite is still very important. You just don't hang up on someone who is doing his/her job. Give the telemarketer a few minutes to finish her/his presentation and then have your say. All telemarketers are trained to present their products in under two or three minutes. Ask as many questions as you want, after all, you are going to pay for the product. If you do not wish to listen, excuse yourself politely.
There maybe calls from telemarketers who may speak in foreign accents. If so, ask the person if she/he speaks your language, if not, politely end the call. If the person calls again, just tell him/her that you don't understand what she/he is trying to say.
Being polite is the easiest way to say 'no'. The telemarketers are just doing their job. How would you feel if you are being rejected harshly? Don't forget that a telemarketer has to make more than 50 phone calls a day. Most telemarketers do not really know who they call nor do they recognize the numbers given.
Suppose a telemarketer has in any way, charmed you to listen to his/her presentation. Think before you agree to buy. The transaction is usually done by credit card. If you don't think you trust the person enough, just tell the person, "I'm not sure if I should give you my credit card number."
All in all, it just doesn't pay to get agitated with telemarketers over the products you don't need. If you are so stressed with these calls, consider getting an unlisted number. Maybe this will solve your problems with telemarketers once and for all.
